Maybe you have some affirmations that you use to feel better and create new scenarios in your life?
I am happy healthy & peaceful or I am slim in all the right places. Or any number of positive statements you have come up with.
Positive affirmations are great for affirming, After all that's what they are, statements that affirm.
Affirm: state as a fact; assert strongly and publicly.
"he affirmed the country's commitment to peace"
Synonyms: : declare, state, assert, proclaim, pronounce, attest, swear, avow, guarantee, pledge,
An affirmation doesn’t necessarily have to be positive.
More often than not, we affirm the negative aspects of ourselves.
I am so stupid!
I don't have enough__________________.Fill in the blank!
I look fat.
People don’t like me.
We mentally & verbally affirm what we believe about ourselves. When we repeat statements to ourselves, we are actually hypnotising ourselves.
Why do we do that?
Our unconscious mind is always listening. It records every moment of our lives, stores those recordings & creates programs. Some of those programs might be... There are no good men out there, I can't let anyone get close because they'll hurt me, I'm not good enough, I have no money, I'm fat…
Once you have these programs running, your conscious mind protects them.
Maybe you're a smoker & decide to stop smoking, your conscious mind protects that “I'm a smoker” program. You are a smoker, smokers smoke. This makes it more difficult to change that pattern. In a contest between your willpower & your imagination, your imagination almost always wins. You can imagine how good that cigarette will taste or imagine how bad you might feel without it. Your unconscious mind does not know the difference between the past present & future! Changing becomes more difficult!
Repeating affirmations with all those old beliefs running is like trying to put on clean clothes after sweating at the gym and not showering first. Sure you might look nice from a distance, but underneath you are sticky & smelly! The clean clothes aren't very effective in helping you feel better or project a good image.
Does this mean that positive affirmations don't really work? No, they just work more effectively when you change the negative stuff inside first.
The first step is to help yourself change those old patterns is to really become aware of all those negative things you do say to yourself..
Stay tuned to help find out out how you Know you have a problem!
